BESPOKE ROYAL HOMESTAY

KUTCH  Guest Photograph

There can be no more fascinating way to discover India than in the company of some of its most charming and distinguished hosts. KOKOindia is proud to be able to offer a once-in-a-lifetime Homestay experience with two of the royal families of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Both families are wonderfully genial and down to earth, and guests will delight in a uniquely personal insight with them into a bygone era.

Maharaj Mahijit Singh Sahib of Jhalawar extends a very warm welcome to selected guests at his family estate in Jhalawar, in southern Rajasthan. Both the estate residences of Prithvi Vilas Palace and Virendra Bhawan are treasure troves of art and history set amongst tranquil farmlands. A trip to the princely state of Jhalawar will take you off the beaten track, and deep into the heart of the Rajasthani countryside, alive with art, music and culture.

In the neighbouring state of Gujarat, the Thakore of Devpur and his family are delighted to invite you to join them at Darbargadh in Kutch. This pretty village fort is the private residence of the Thakores of Devpur, and located in a distinctly untouristy region of Gujarat. There are an overwhelming variety of attractions to choose from, such as flamingo sanctuaries, artisan villages and ancient fortresses.

Should you choose to spend time in either Jhalawar or Kutch, KOKOindia will happily put together an extended tour of Rajasthan or Gujarat to complement your stay. Alternatively, and with only a day’s travelling time between them, you could choose to spend time in both royal residences, and experience two completely different destinations with hosts from the same family. Tracing the families’ shared history through visits to the state museums, crumbling city palaces and old family photographs is a fascinating opportunity not to be missed.
